It is our intention as soccer coaches to develop a team that does not only desire to win but to be successful in many other aspects as individuals and as a team. Winning is not all that matters. As coaches we have 3 standards that determine a team having a successful season. It is important to note that for our teams and program to be successful we must all work as one unit and develop an organized, consistent approach to the game of soccer.
We must ask ourselves throughout the season are the athletes learning and improving? We will focus on individual and team specific skill development through the teaching of fundamentals and knowledge of the game of soccer.
We will also be focusing on teaching life lessons and improving these qualities in each individual; the ability to work with others, gain a selfless attitude for betterment of the team, and the ability to persevere are just a few.
It is also important that we are maintaining an atmosphere that produces enjoyment and memorable experiences. One reason student athletes participate in their sports is to have fun. The athletes should enjoy the challenges of competition, the camaraderie with fellow athletes and their coaches, sharing team activities, and developing lifelong positive memories.
Lastly, but very important, is the emphasis that we put into character development. It is crucial as a coaching staff that we are representing our school in a positive manner. The athletes will also be held to a high standard in the importance of exhibiting good sportsmanship and respect for everyone involved in athletic competition – opponents, coaches, officials, teammates, and fans. The athletes should be good citizens and positive role models for our school.
